REEL - Our Facilities

Air Flow Test Chambers

alt

Fan testing is conducted on air flow test chambers, including five units that measure air flow for experimental and test equipment. The chambers can be used to test fans up to 8 feet in diameter. These chambers are fully instrumented to provide temperature, pressure and air flow in a fully automated data acquisition system. The test chambers are built to ANSI/AMCA Standard 210 and to American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Standard 51, HVI 915.

Psychrometric Test Facility

alt

The Psychrometric Test Facility provides a controlled environment for testing unitary air conditioning and heat pump systems. This facility is fully instrumented and computerized to monitor and record dry bulb, wet bulb and dew point temperatures from +10 to +120º F, and to measure relative humidity from 5% to 95%. The Facility can accommodate equipment up to 10-tons capacity, and can measure air flow rates from 150 to 5,000 CFM in an AMCA 210 nozzle airflow chamber. The Test Facility meets ASHRAE Standards 116 and ARI 210/240.

Semi-Reverberant Sound Room

The Semi-Reverberant Sound Room provides sound analyses that verify noise levels of bathroom fans, other room exhaust fans and kitchen range hoods for the Home Ventilating Institute (HVI) - Fan Testing Certification Program. The residential ventilation industry has used data from such tests for analyzing fan noise and designing quieter fans for the residential market (HVI 916).

The sound room meets ANSI Standard S1.121 in addition to the HVI testing requirements.

Air Sampling Test Facility

The Air Sampling Test Facility provides the capabilities to model and test aerosols and aerosol samplers. Model studies on ducts and stacks can be performed with wind tunnel facilities up to 100 miles per hour. Tracer gas analyzers, particle counter instrumentation, vibrating jet atomizers and thermal anemometers are some of the equipment available in the facility.

Photovoltaic Testing Facility

alt

The Photovoltaic (PV) Testing Facility is a secured, outdoor facility for the performance testing of PV devices in hot and humid climates. The facility is instrumented with a weather station, and tilt and global radiation instruments, and power, voltage and current measurement equipment.\
