Grußwort by Michael Glos MdB (Deutsch)

The International Conference for Enhanced Building Operations (ICEBO) will take place on October 20-22 in Berlin, Germany. The conference is held under the patronage of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, hosted by the Institute of Building Services and Energy Design, Technical University of Braunschweig, the Ebert-Consulting Group, and co-hosted by the Energy Systems Laboratory located at Texas A&M University, College Station.
The rapidly growing field of enhanced building operation systematically optimizes building energy performance, reduces energy use, improves indoor air quality, and improves occupant comfort and productivity. This is achieved through a multi-phase process, called building commissioning, to ensure that the interacting energy systems in a building are properly designed, installed and operated optimally. The conference transfers research advances to the day-to-day practice of building designers, contractors, managers and operators focusing on:

  • Improving building performance in design, construction and operation
  • Designing and evaluating green buildings
  • Implementation of the European Performance of Building Directive
  • Re-commissioning and retro-commissioning buildings
  • Enhancing heating and cooling equipment performance
  • Measuring and verifying building improvement practices
  • Evaluation and improvement of user behavior
  • Building rating systems worldwide

The conference will bring together an outstanding group of international professionals and researchers
who strive to improve the health and comfort and minimize the energy consumption, operating costs, and environmental impacts of buildings. ICEBO 2008 will be a leading forum for timely exchanges among engineers, energy managers, government energy agencies, companies, contractors and building scientists interested in the continuous improvement and maintenance of buildings and their energy usage.

The international approach of ICEBO makes it unique. The conferences alternate between USA and international sites. ICEBO 2008 will be held in Berlin, Germany. Other recent venues include
  • ICEBO 2007, San Francisco, California;
  • ICEBO 2006, Shenzhen, China;
  • ICEBO 2005, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania;
  • ICEBO 2004, Paris, France.

The conferences are closely coordinated with the International Energy Agency’s annexes on building commissioning.

The conferences bring together experts in both building energy research and building operations. Through technical sessions, symposiums, seminars, forums and tabletop exhibits, ICEBO gathers and distributes information on the newest energy technology, applications, and products from throughout the world. The agenda is expanding to include the environmental benefits of enhanced building operations, including the reduction of NOx to meet U.S. air quality standards and the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In these areas, ICEBO works closely with the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, the U.S. Green Building Council, the Building Commissioning Association, the California Commissioning Collaborative, and others.
